The members of ARCOS Network gathered in Kigali on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, for their Annual General Assembly, marking a momentous 30-year milestone of dedication, resilience, and impactful community engagement. The event featured inspiring speeches from key leaders including Dr. Victor, Chair of the ARCOS Network Board of Directors, and Dr. Sam Kanyamibwa, the organization’s CEO and Founder.
Dr. Victor’s Reflection on the Organization’s Journey and Vision for the Future
During his address, Dr. Victor expressed pride in the organization’s three-decade legacy. “Today, we celebrate 30 years of collective effort and perseverance,” he said. “It’s an honor to have all of you here, whether in Kigali or online, as we reflect on our achievements and look forward to a brighter future.”
He acknowledged the challenging environment—shaped by climate change, technological advancement, and shifting funding landscapes—and praised the resilience and unwavering support of all involved. “Without you, we wouldn’t have come this far,” he affirmed. “ARCOS Network is destined for bigger things, and together, we will continue to make a meaningful impact.”
Closing his speech, Dr. Victor thanked all members and stakeholders for their dedication, emphasizing that the organization’s future efforts will be even more inspiring.
Dr. Sam Kanyamibwa’s Passionate Reflection on Dedication and Roots
The founder and CEO, Dr. Kanyamibwa, delivered a heartfelt speech that connected the organization’s roots with its ongoing mission. “Thank you very much for everything you have done,” he told the members. “Today, we are celebrating 30 years of hard work, passion, and determination. What we see today—this energy, this enthusiasm—is nothing compared to what has driven us over the years.”
Sharing stories from his childhood, Dr. Kanyamibwa reflected on his early connection with nature. “As a young boy, I crossed rivers, climbed hills, and listened to birds singing. I saw snakes and lions and learned how to navigate challenges by staying focused and resourceful. That resilience has guided me ever since.”
Dr. Kanyamibwa highlighted that ARCOS has grown over 13.9 million trees, restored 60,000 hectares of land, empowered 90,000 households, and supported over 140,000 students through their Education for Sustainable Development Programs. He also noted their work created over 165,000 jobs through nature-based solutions.
His words underscored the importance of perseverance, passion, and community connection—values that continue to inspire ARCOS Network’s journey and future ambitions.
A Milestone Celebration with an Eye Toward the Future
The Assembly was a moment to honor the organization’s achievements over 30 years while reaffirming its commitment to heritage preservation and community development. ARCOS currently employs 245 staff. The organization also reached an annual income of $17 million in 2025. Thanks to investment of $850,000 in Nature-based Community Fund/Umusave, communities have been able to finance micro-projects and catalyze their savings.
